Shopping for the right gift.
Whatever the situation a ‘good gift’ can be bought using a little creative thinking. The few minutes considering the person’s interest and personality then applying what you know will get you there. It might be useful when you are talking with the person or their friends to find out ‘what floats their boat’ and to jot down the answers for future reference.
A ‘good’ gift doesn’t need to be expensive or a cheap gift trying to look expensive.
We may have been tempted to give some one a gift we have received and didn’t like. There is a danger in this of course as it may be recognised and cause embarrassment all round.
There are some useful tips we can apply for any gift to lift it to the ‘good’ category;
- A basket filled with items related to a hobby
E.g. packets of pins and needles, cottons, and pretty ribbons for a dressmaker, packets of seeds, labels, string, gloves for a gardener.
- Making a his and her basket in the same way.
- Clever gift-wrapping can make all the difference. Chocolates or candles wrapped in cellophane with a bright ribbon, soaps in an unusual box.
- Donations to charities are often welcome.
- A ‘day out’ gift, a balloon ride or a day at a spa.
- An attractive notebook with a printed label for the hobby or interest. Guest and autograph books can still be acceptable.
- Picture frames with a picture of a favourite view.
- Plants in an unusual container, teapot or watering can or wrapped in fabric and tied with twine.
- If of course funds are short an I.O.U. can work well, to do the ironing for a month, weed the garden or even make a cuppa when you want one.
